Celebrating National Veterinarian Technician Week

October 18, 2021 by Jennifer Houghton Leave a Comment

This week you can celebrate the wonderful people who do the important work at veterinary offices all over the country. November 17-23 is National Veterinarian Technician Week.

The American Veterinarian Medical Association (AVMA) recognizes the value of these staff members on their website, offering thanks for all they do. AVMA says that Vet Techs are “critical to the day-to-day function of veterinary practices, and play vital roles in preserving animal health and welfare.”

The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) focuses this year’s event on self care. The theme is appropriate considering that Vet Techs “have worked incredibly hard over the past 18 months, handling a workload and stress level never seen before.  It is critically important that NAVTA emphasize the importance of self-care and a healthy work-life balance.”

Understandably, with the number of pandemic pets adopted, it is no surprise that the volume of work for the pet healthcare industry has been overwhelming.

The poster for this year emphasizes who Vet Techs are “when the stethoscope comes off”. They highlight the many activities your Vet Tech might be engaged in when not in an exam room, lab, or office setting. You can find out more by going to their website at https://www.navta.net/page/nat_vet_tech .

According to the Vet Tech Colleges website, Vet Techs are highly trained professionals deserving of recognition and gratitude. “Compared to human medicine, a Vet Tech can serve as a laboratory technician, a respiratory therapist, a dietician, a nurse, a radiation tech, an anesthesiologist, and a physical therapist in a single role.”

If you are looking for gift ideas for your favorite Vet Tech, Vet Tech Colleges offers some options to consider at https://www.vettechcolleges.com/blog/vet-tech-appreciation-week.

Thanks to all of our Vet Tech friends!

June Is National Foster A Pet Month

June 2, 2021 by Jennifer Houghton Leave a Comment

Did you know that June is National Foster a Pet Month? If you didn’t, you might be surprised by one of the statistics shared by the Petco Foundation.

Susanne Kogut, president of the Petco Foundation, reported that if “2% of pet-owning households in the U.S. fostered just one pet a year, we could eliminate unnecessary euthanasia in this country, not just during the COVID-19 shutdown, but forever.”

Kogut encouraged individuals to continue to foster as businesses begin to reopen. [Read more…] about June Is National Foster A Pet Month

When Your Pet Is In The Wedding Party

May 19, 2021 by Jennifer Houghton Leave a Comment

June is known for weddings. And with the return of more normal activities, we know that many people will be getting married, attending weddings, or heading off to delayed honeymoons.

That means your floofin might need pet care services or even require a handy Floofins & Co. specialist to help your pet take part in the ceremony.

If you want to include your pet in your ceremony, contact us. We love helping you get your pet to the venue; walk them down the aisle; or even assist your pet in their ring bearing role. Having a specialist on hand can take one more worry off your list. You can relax while Floofins & Co. holds the leash.  [Read more…] about When Your Pet Is In The Wedding Party

National Dog Mom Day Is May 8th

May 8, 2021 by Jennifer Houghton Leave a Comment

As a native West Virginian I know the backstory behind Mother’s Day. But did you know there’s a National Dog Mom Day?

Back in 2018, the personal dating app Dig – an app designed for people with dogs – established the holiday. National Dog Mom Day happens the Saturday before Mother’s Day.

While the pandemic may still limit some of the things that can be done to celebrate, we think that any holiday that involves your dog is a winner.

And according to a survey by rover.com, 3 out of 4 ladies consider themselves dog moms, not just pet parents.  [Read more…] about National Dog Mom Day Is May 8th

Hey! Does Your Dog Bite?

April 14, 2021 by Jennifer Houghton Leave a Comment

The answer to that question, I’ve learned the hard way, is always yes! Which isn’t to say that our dogs are out to bite down on any human in sight! Rather, it is something to be especially aware of in the age of pandemic pets.

The second week in April is Dog Bite Prevention Week. So, let’s talk about ways to minimize or prevent a bite wound.

Dogs have a limited number of mechanisms to communicate to humans when they are uncomfortable. Most of their cues are nonverbal and humans aren’t always well versed in the language. Once they move to growling, the typical follow-up (if that doesn’t work) is a snap or lunge or a bite.  [Read more…] about Hey! Does Your Dog Bite?
