Dog Birthday Celebrations

Dog BirthdaysIdeas For Celebrating Your Furry Family

Believe it or not, Prissy and Portia will be turning the big 6 this coming July! Be it an official dog birthday or a “gotchaday” (i.e. the day your pet was adopted) it is celebration worthy and there are many ways to par-tay.

There is no shame in inviting family and friends over to celebrate your dog’s special day. A great dog birthday party could range from a small family party to full out event with human and canine guests.

Prissy and Portia, unfortunately, are not huge fans of large stressful parties or having lots of canine guests in their home, so in the past we have resorted to the small family party format. Over the years we have found a few more great ways to celebrate Prissy and Portia Day. Here are a few ideas to help you with your plans:

1. Order A Personalized Dog Cake. The Happy Dog Barkery (Downers Grove) will bake your pet a fresh cake (liver or peanut butter) and add your personal message in yogurt or carob frosting. Prissy and Portia LOVE their liver cake and there truly is nothing cuter than “Happy Birthday Prissy and Portia” on a mini 6″ liver cake. Yes, this is photographed above!

2. Take Them Shopping. There are many wonderful pet boutiques in the area like Ruff Life (Elmhurst), Wet Nose (Oak Brook), The Urban Mutt (La Grange), Two Boston’s (Naperville), Pet Necessities (Western Springs), Zoey’s Eatz N’ Treatz (Willowbrook) and Natural Pet Market (Wheaton). Take your pet shopping and let them pick out a special treat or toy.

3. Take Them Out Tonight. Take your pet out on the town or to dinner. There are many local restaurants that will allow pets if your pet’s birthday is in the summer and you want to eat on the patio. You can find a great list of pet friendly restaurants at bringfido.com.

This year for the big 6, Portia and Prissy’s birthday falls on a Thursday, so we will be taking a shopping trip over lunch for some special treats and maybe a new toy or two. We will then pick up their birthday cake, and their father, and head to the Public Landing Restaurant for dinner. They have a beautiful patio and a special menu of Yappetizers for dogs.

We hope these ideas help you with your upcoming celebrations. Party on Floofins!
