How Well Do We Know Your Pets?

January 17, 2023 by Jennifer Houghton Leave a Comment

January 19th is Get To Know Your Customers Day. We feel pretty confident that we know your pets pretty well, but we always want to learn more.

Let’s talk about how we get to know the Floofins in your household.

First, we alway do a meet and greet before taking on new clients. We get all of the information on your home, your pet’s schedule, the feeding preferences, etc. It’s important to us that we make your absence feel less stressful to your pet by keeping them in their routine.

We also spend regular time with them. If you are a midday walk client, we know the pace your pet likes to take and are able to notice when they speed up or slow down or even when something is askew.

As a client, I have had my Floofins staff member note any small lumps or bumps and any odd behavior (like that time Ginger insisted she take her water buffalo horn on her walk). It’s helpful and informative.

But did you know that you can always contact us with additional information above and beyond what is in your profile? We always document information there for consistency between staff and the office. But, you can always reach out to us with feedback about our service and staff. We encourage communication.

Finally, if you are satisfied with the service you receive, consider leaving a Google Review, Yelp Review, or a Facebook Review. Those words of praise and affirmation make a huge difference when potential clients are researching pet care companies. We note it and appreciate it.

So, tell us more about you, our customers. And if you want, let others know how you feel about us. We believe in hearing our customers, so always let us know how we’re doing.

Take Your Pet To Work Week

June 16, 2021 by Jennifer Houghton Leave a Comment

No matter whether you are back in the office or still working from home, you can participate in Take Your Pet To Work Week June 21st through 25th.

Created in 1999 by Pet Sitters International (PSI) to highlight dog companionship and to encourage adoptions, Take Your Dog To Work Day has grown. What was once a single Friday event just for dogs has expanded to a weeklong event that includes cats.

Monday, June 21st, get out your hashtags and kitties and #takeyourcattoworkday. PSI will share their favorites photos from the submissions they receive. [Read more…] about Take Your Pet To Work Week

Avoiding Separation Anxiety

June 17, 2020 by Jennifer Houghton Leave a Comment

I have a confession: my dog sometimes pees on the rug. It’s nothing personal and we don’t talk about it (much). It is a symptom of her separation anxiety.

My dog, like most people, has a routine. And she likes to keep things in the rut in which she has grown accustomed. There is no question that her actions come from a past life (she was an adult rescue). Just like humans, pets need to acclimate to new normals in order to mitigate the most severe reactions of separation anxiety that could occur.

As Illinois begins to transition from its period of strict stay-at-home orders, people and pets may find themselves struggling to readjust. Just as you would prepare your children for bedtime hours in the days leading up to the end of summer vacation, you should consider how to manage your pet. National Pet Parents Day

April 22, 2020 by Jennifer Houghton Leave a Comment

When April 26th rolls around this year, the traditional methods for celebrating National Pet Parents Day might not be readily available. With many communities sheltering-in-place as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to make its way across the country, getting out and participating in the pet community may not be possible.

Many shelters and rescues have been reporting that they are empty, which is great. That means you may not be able to go and provide your time to a shelter or foster a pet.

So, if you currently don’t have a pet in your life but are considering one, don’t give up. Rescues and shelters still need supplies. Monetary donations are always helpful, if you have the resources. Also, volume surges and wanes, so you may find that your fostering services will be needed later on.

Pet Poison Prevention Week

March 18, 2020 by Jennifer Houghton Leave a Comment

The third week of March has been designated as Pet Poison Prevention Week for over 50 years.

How often do you think about what might be poisonous to your pet? Before you bring them into your home? After they’ve eaten something that has fallen on the floor? Immediately upon reentering the room after leaving a pan of brownies on the stove in what should have been a safe distance to find half the pan eaten and your dog’s guilty grin greeting you?

Let’s take a moment to consider what might cause dire harm or death to your pet upon ingestion and what actions you can or should take if that occurs.

There’s a very handy search engine on https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/poisons/. Type in the item ingested and get information on what to do.

Further, Pet Poison Helpline is a 24-hour pet poison control center. There is a fee involved if you use their services. Or, they can help you locate an emergency vet near you.

Their website includes guides on pet safety and how to spot potential poisons in each room of your house and even by holidays. With Easter approaching, you can read about possible poisonings that can occur during that time frame at https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/pet-owners/seasons/easter/.

The top dog poison is chocolate and the top cat poison is lilies. See the complete list by clicking here.
