Dog Training Tip – Desensitization
Just like practicing for a veterinary exam or a grooming appointment, you can use desensitization as a way to get your pet used to a variety of items, situations, etc. Desensitization is the process of getting an animal used to a new stimulus through gradual exposure to it. In the picture above, you’d never be able to tell that Patch was scared of those zombie hands, but at first he was very afraid of them. By slowly getting him used to them, he’s now comfortable enough to lay in between them and let us capture a cute picture. Gradual progression is the key to making this work and how fast that progression happens all depends on the individual pet.
