Michele Hatley’s Tuesday Dog Training Tip – People and Animals Can Live Peacefully Together

August 9, 2011 by Michele Hatley Leave a Comment

People And Animals Can Understand Each Other. How To Make A Human And Dog Household Work!

Dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years, but that doesn’t mean they come to us knowing exactly how they are supposed to act when living with people. It is our responsibility to train or to teach them how to live in our homes. In fact, this is some of the most important training that we can teach any of our pets.

Dogs are often brought into families for their companionship, but what kind of companionship is it if the dog is unpleasant to live with or terrorizing their life? To avoid that – set guidelines and be consistent.

Teach them where they can lay down, go to the bathroom or what toys they can have. Be clear in your decisions regarding whether or not your dog is allowed on the couch or on the bed. Create guidelines for how your dog should act when meal preparation is going on or you are sitting down to eat. Teach your dog how to appropriately greet people at the door. Teach them how to walk on a leash or ride in a car. Dogs have to learn these things so come up with a plan or rules and stick to it.

Every family member should be on the same page so that the dog doesn’t get confused. A dog that understands how it should live with you will make for a happier home for both dog and family. Happily living amongst our animals is a picture that we can all strive to obtain.
