Tucked away in the southwestern section of Willowbrook is Tony and Florence Borse Memorial Community Park. While it’s located off of 75th Street between Clarendon Hills Road and Route 83, it’s easy to pass by unless you’re looking for it.
This small park may encompass just 17 acres, but it has lots to offer! If you look at it on Google Maps, it doesn’t seem like much, but the satellite image is outdated, as this park received a full renovation which was completed in 2024.
Getting Around
There are two parking lots. We started in the northern lot at the corner of Eleanor Place and 75th Street. This lot is large and is bordered by an extensive natural area. You know that here at Floofins, we love our natural areas! Brown eyed Susans flank a small creek that runs into a half-acre pond. Cross the bridge to enter the park – it’s a perfect spot for pet pics!
Just before you enter beneath the Willowbrook arch, you’ll see a veterans’ memorial circle that overlooks the pond. Continue on to the asphalt path which leads under the arch and into the park. The pond is to your left, and offers catch and release fishing as well as a lovely spot to enjoy watching aquatic birds.
To the right you pass by the basketball and pickleball courts, as well as a pavilion (with bathrooms!) After the pavilion, the path spilts. To the left is a tree-lined path that circles around the batting cages, straight ahead are the baseball fields and concession stand, and to the right is a path that skirts the western boundary of the park.
At the southern end of the park is the other parking lot. This lot has a lovely little pollinator garden.
That’s about all, but this is where you find a nice little treat. If you cross Midway Drive, you find yourself in Midway Park. It’s tiny, but here you’ll find a hockey rink, baseball diamond, outdoor gym, and small pavilion with restrooms. The path loops around the perimeter of the park.
Turn west once you’re back on Midway Drive and you can head down to the asphalt path. This hugs the western side of the park and brings you around the baseball fields and back to the ball courts and pond.
Amenities
Borse Park has drinking fountains, bathrooms, and garbage cans, but no poop bag stations. Be sure to bring your own! Aside from the fields and courts, there is a playground and splash pads. Benches are situated throughout the park.
Park Safety
The paths are well-maintained and perfect for those who use mobility aids. There are a lot of shaded areas throughout the park, making it pleasant even on a blazing hot day. The playground was bustling, and the courts were full of people enjoying basketball and pickleball. The park is small enough that you’re never out of sight of other people, and there are lights for night games.
Final Thoughts
Borse Park may be small, but it’s perfect if you’re looking for a loop to walk or want to be around other people. Midway Park across the street is an extra bonus! We saw several walkers as well as dogs enjoying the park. This would be a perfect destination for a short walk on a hot day. We’ll definitely be back!
