Celebrating Seventeen Years of The Original Floofins

At Floofins & Co., we believe that exceptional pet care isn’t just the service we provide; it’s our purpose. This July, we’re thrilled to celebrate a truly remarkable milestone: the 17th birthday of our beloved mascots, Priscilla, affectionately known as Prissy and “Chief Napping Officer”, and Portia, “Chief Food Officer” and resident treat connoisseur. These two remarkable girls are more than pets; they are the heart and inspiration behind everything we do, reminding us daily of the “why” at the core of Floofins & Co.: the need for professionally run, in-home pet care that is safe, personal, and worthy of our family’s trust. Today and every day, we’re celebrating seventeen years of the Original Floofins!

Seventeen Years Young & Still Leading the Way

Prissy and Portia, both well into their golden years, continue to set the standard for living life to the fullest. Thanks to years of dedicated care, loving attention, and the expertise of some of the best veterinarians Chicago has to offer, these two are still going strong.

As the Chief Napping Officer, Prissy reminds us daily to savor quiet moments, wrap ourselves in a cozy blanket, and never underestimate the healing power of a good nap. Meanwhile, Portia takes her duties as Chief Food Officer seriously, keeping our team on its toes… more on that later.

Together, they’ve shown us that what pets need is the security and comfort that comes from personalized, professional care!

A Mission Born at Home, Shared with the Community

When I founded Floofins & Co., it was because I wanted better for pets like Prissy and Portia. Rather than relying on crowded kennels that stressed them out, I envisioned a service built around compassionate, reliable care in the comfort of a pet’s own home. Today, that mission continues to serve families in Elmhurst, Oak Brook, La Grange, and neighboring Chicagoland communities. It’s the reason we invest in ongoing training, emergency preparedness, and a team approach: our clients’ pets are family, and they deserve the very best.

Why Professionalism (and Back-Up Plans) Matter

Our commitment to professionalism and its importance was never more evident than during a recent heart-stopping event:

While I was out of town, Portia embarked on an unexpected adventure, managing to take a tumble down the stairs, wander off, and then fall right through the lid of a failing sump pit. For those that aren’t familiar, a sump pit is a hole dug in the lowest part of a basement or crawlspace, designed to collect excess water.

Thanks to the quick thinking, emergency protocols, and teamwork of our Floofins & Co. sitters, disaster was averted, but not without a whole team effort. Our sitters successfully pulled her out safely (yes, from a literal toilet pit!), ensured she received immediate ER vet care, and kept me informed every step of the way. She came home acting as if nothing had happened. Still, I was left profoundly grateful to have not just one, but multiple dedicated professionals in place, ready for anything our mischievous senior girls might get themselves into.

Celebrating Seventeen Years of The Original Floofins

Today, I’m thrilled to be celebrating seventeen years of Prissy and Portia: our originals, our muses, our sassy floofins. Their story is the story of Floofins & Co. They are proof that with devoted care and the right team, our pets can enjoy long, joyful lives at home. Here’s to you, girls, for keeping us true to our mission! And, thank you to our extended Floofins family for trusting us with your most precious companions.

A big thank you also goes out to Happy Dog Barkery, who made their cake again this year. Read about last year’s Sweet Sixteen celebration here. Cheers to many more naps, meals, and happy years ahead!
