Keeping Cats Safe One Holiday At A Time

‘Tis the season! With great holiday cheer comes great responsibility. Here are a few cat holiday safety tips for keeping your cats safe during this season’s festivities!

  • We all love decorating. And we all know cats LOVE to put their own personal touch on things. We do not want anyone to relive what that poor kitty went through in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. So please avoid leaving wires from light strands exposed. Tinsel and certain holiday plants should be avoided as well. They are too shiny and yummy-smelling for cats to keep out of their mouths and can be deadly if ingested. Try some faux plants to keep the house looking festive.
  • I’m sure we are all still in a food coma from Thanksgiving and another glorious holiday meal is the last thing on our minds. (I know it is for me!) Avoid giving your cats rich, fatty foods. You may have a grumpy cat, but trust me when I say that with those fragrance-free fake plants that can’t shield the scent, that upset-tummy-litter-box-smell we all know and love will be shining brighter than ever. And for all the grown ups, Fluffy does not need to know how great that holiday cocktail tastes.
  • On a lighter note: given the ever-so-graceful nature of our furry feline friends, candles should not be left unattended. No need for chestnuts roasting on any fires other than the one in your designated fireplace.
